RAIL NOW

JUST FOR FUN . . .

This section contains photos of the May 2007 visit to the Seattle area by a special Union Pacific passenger train powered by two classic steam locomotives, Southern Pacific 4449 and Union Pacific 844.

Steam powered trains and other special trains (including dinner trains, tourist trains and party trains) can be an excellent way to generate publicity and goodwill for a railroad. They can also be profitable. Because of its very scenic route, which passes through both heavily populated urban areas and bucolic rural areas, the Eastside railroad could likewise provide an excellent opportunity for operating occasional steam powered trains and other special trains in addition to its current functions (i.e., freight service and dinner train) and proposed transit service.
